Nirmala Tandon was born in a family of academicians. She did her Masters in History Iress Allahabad University and persued B.Ed as she wanted to be a part of the teaching profession. She is also an Alumnus of the Harvard Business School where she did a program on Strategic Perspectives in Non Profit Management.
She has 33 years of experience in the education sector including 18 years as a senior faculty school teacher in a prestigious CBSE school| She was the Head of the Department, and the Coordinator for the Senior school, with the additional responsibility for organising training workshops and leading social initiatives. As the Head of the Department and the Coordinator for the senior school, she empowered the children with a strong urge of lifelong learning, to not run after success but to chase excellence and to create a community of well rounded individuals.
Subsequently for 15 years she was the Honorary Founding CEO of IIMPACT, an NGO providing free primary education to poor out of school girls from socially and backward remote rural areas of India. She has travelled extensively in some of the most backward and remote areas of the country, counselling parents and communities to instil the benefits of good education for their children, specially girls. The organization has impacted the lives of over one lakh girls. Her passion, perseverance and patience has transformed the lives of lacs of underprivileged girls, their families and entire communities.
She is the recipient of Teacher Warrior Awards for making a difference, "Saarthak Nari Award" for women achievers. Her inspiring story was published in a book "called Small Big Bang", a tribute to the undying spirit of 30 die hard entrepreneurs of India who left a comfortable life to explore the unknown terrain.
These awards and accolades endorse her extraordinary passion and commitment in making a significant impact in the fields of education and social sciences.
